Suggested Equipment and Supply Replacement Schedule

Resmed S9 Auto Continuous Positive Airway Pressure DeviceYour PAP supplies should be replaced when they show signs of wear. Depending on your insurance coverage, you may be able to replace them on a regular basis.

The maximum replacement schedule for PAP supplies with Medicare patients is shown below.

Medicare may change this schedule without warning or notice; check with your homecare provider or local Medicare carrier for more information.

Sleep therapy masks on average last three to six months depending on several factors.

These factors include:

  • Mask cushion/pillow seal deterioration due to effects of facial oils and/or acidity.
  • Proper fitting and sizing of mask
  • Frequency and method of cleaning mask with mild, soapy water.
  • Do not use soaps with moisturizers, soaps with perfumes or antibacterial soaps.

Wipe mask each day to remove skin oils and to help obtain better seal without tightening. Over tightening your mask causes discomfort and pressure points.


Resmed Water ChamberAir tubing and water chambers should air dry daily in a clean dry area out of direct sunlight. Wash all supplies weekly with mild soap (i.e. Johnson Baby Shampoo) and warm water. Rinse thoroughly.

To disinfect supplies after a sinus infection or upper respiratory infection, use white distilled vinegar (1 part vinegar to 3 parts water). Let your supplies soak for approximately 30 minutes and then rinse thoroughly. Air dry until next use.



Humidity/Temperature Resmed H5I Heated HumidifierAdjustment of humidity is very important for effectiveness of your PAP Therapy.

As a general rule:

  • For nasal congestion or dry throat, turn up humidity/ temperature.
  • For runny nose or sneezing, turn down humidity/ temperature (climate line range 60 degrees F to 86 degrees F)
